Game Engines: Mini Projects

For this class we had three projects to work on during the semester, the first two were recreating old games in Pong and Galaga and the third was making a Platformer.

Pong was a very simple project to build so I wanted to add as much juice to it as possible, screenshakes, changing colours, sound effects, etc... I made a modern looking Pong which let you play exactly like the classic game with some extra visual and auditory bonuses!

Galaga was also a fun project to work on, as it we weren't just tasked with making the regular side to side motion enemies, but also a boss fight at the end! (I thought it would me funny to take a high pixel count asset for the boss to contrast with the simplicity of the rest of the assets)

The platformer was a great project to work on, as I got to remincise about the days of my brothers and I playing Super Mario Bros on the couch when we were younger. While I didn't have the time to make a game as full of content and story as Mario, I did try to add as much life to the game as possible. There are three enemies, the mushroom who walks side to side waiting to be stomped on, the blue bird that flys around and waits to dive on incoming players, and the big orange bird, Max, the final boss who you need to kite into the spike pits below to defeat!
